Mayor of Merida condemns foreigner's destruction of cafeteria: "it is unacceptable"

MÉRIDA.- The case of the destruction and verbal aggression against a young woman in a café in the city centre has gone viral and has caused controversy due to the violent actions of a foreigner of Spanish origin.
The incident, as we reported, occurred on the 25th according to a social media post, which was accompanied by videos showing the subject's actions.
In light of these events, it was announced that the victim filed a complaint with the city's Public Prosecutor's Office for the attacks.
The video generated a wave of reactions among social media users, especially those from Yucatan , who have expressed their outrage , some of whom even identified him as an activist.
Interviewed regarding these events, Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada called on those who visit the city and foreigners who reside there to behave with respect towards the people of Merida .
The mayor made these comments during the presentation of the “Alerta Segura” program.
“We invite those who have decided to live in our city to embrace our traditions, our customs and, above all, to respect the peace and harmony in which we live.”
Mayor Cecilia Patrón stressed that she already knew that a complaint had been filed against the alleged aggressor.
"We are already aware of the matter, there is already a complaint," said the mayor.
He also reported that the City Council is in coordination with the State Police to follow up on the case and ensure that these situations "do not happen again."
The mayor was very emphatic in pointing out that anyone who damages or attacks a citizen of Merida will deserve punishment.
He said that this type of behavior "is unacceptable, it is something we cannot allow."
He also mentioned that this is not only for foreigners, but also for locals.
Cecilia Patrón reiterated that “we will always seek peace and harmony in our city.”
